Indian National Academy of Civilizational Studies (INACS) organized a discussion on the book "Tatya Tope's Operation Red Lotus" in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India on 8th May 2010. The book has been written by Tatya Tope's fourth generation descendant Parag Tope and published by Rupa Publications. In this book Parag Topé and the Topé family have presented the story of Tatya and the Anglo-Indian War of 1857 after spending more than two years in and out of various archives and libraries, poring over volumes of source material, translating original letters, picking-up the threads of a scattered Tatya Topé family and piecing together a complex puzzle of 1857. The students of JNU show their interest in the book by participating in the discussion held in SIS Committee room.
Initiating the discussion Parag Tope said that the important words "Azadi to chand dino ki baat hai" were pronounced by Sardar Vallabhai Patel on 20 February 1946, two days after the events that forced England to withdraw from India. In the months to follow the English were removed from India and India secured political freedom. These forgotten events are recalled in Operation Red Lotus and provide a backdrop for a similar call made exactly 89 years and 5 months before this day.

INACS provides a platform for academicians, researchers, scholars and students to present their research work in Indic Civilisational Studies, and for public intellectuals, journalists, public officials, social workers and activists to learn and grasp the intellectual foundation of public affairs. A listing of conference topics with their synopses is included in this document.

If you have a referral for participation, please send his/her contact details to the INACS office address (via postal mail), to the conference e-mail address, or call Shiv Shakti at 093127 22039 (mobile).
The conference is being organized in the background of civilisational studies in India, its historical evolution, an assessment of previous and current efforts, and makes a case for changing the direction in order to realize the full potential of the intrinsic strengths of the Indic civilisational complex towards the qualitative betterment of life in India and the world.
One of the first steps towards the indianisation of the civilisational studies is to build a professional learned society of Indic scholars who need a common platform to come together and share their research work in the form of published formal papers. The objective of the current endeavor is to build such a professional learned society.

Submissions are invited from scholars, historians, social scientists and other interested individuals for an appraisal of the role of Sufis and their legacy in India.
Background
The civilizational knowledge can be defined as the knowledge gained by a particular people within a specific geographical area in long course of time through interaction with nature and environment constituting a particular culture and civilization. It includes the wisdom, teachings and experiences of the people possessing this knowledge; it also includes their beliefs, value system and pratices. While it has been passed orally from generations to generations or sometimes reflected in the folk-lores, rituals, stories, songs, ballads and sayings of the local people possessing it, it may be available in extant manuscripts and recorded materials preserved through centuries.

Background

Call for Papers Seminar Topic
“Legacy of the Sufis in India: A Socio-Cultural Appraisal”
Submissions are invited from scholars, historians, social scientists and other interested individuals for an appraisal of the role of Sufis and their legacy in India.
Chair
Rabi Ranjan Sen, Senior Lecturer, Katwa College, West Bengal
Background
Sufis and Sufism are often referred to in general parlance as a shining example of the evolution of a Hindu-Muslim syncretic culture in the Indian social, cultural and religious landscape in the medieval ages. In academic as well as lay discourses, Sufis are often pitted against the “illiberal, narrow-minded” Ulema as representing the “ tolerant, liberal” face of Islam. Since even today, shrines and dargahs of Sufi saints are visited and venerated by both Hindus and Muslims, it is often presumed that the saints themselves, similarly made no distinction between the people on the basis of caste or creed.
